ARTISTS / TRACKS / LINKS

ZEITGEISTZERO - PARTY FOR ONE

http://www.zeitgeistzero.com/

http://www.myspace.com/zeitgeistzero

Zeitgeist Zero have been described as one of the most exciting and fastest growing bands in the alternative music scene. Influences include everything from the big band jazz of Al Bowlly and the blues of Bessie Smith through to the rock 'n' roll of the 50's, punk and new wave bands of the late 70's through to the electronics of Depeche Mode and the Prodigy through to the metal of Danzig and Rammstein. Often compared to Blondie or early Garbage, Zeitgeist Zero play edgy, progressive music with a rock 'n' roll attitude. Lyrically personal experiences are drawn upon to write original, emotional songs whilst maintaining a balance of catchy hooks and sing-a-long melodies.

DEAD TO THE WORLD - ALBUM - AVAILABLE NOW

Leeds' finest, ZEITGEIST ZERO. Supplied as a glorious glossy full-colour digipack, including a 12-page booklet with artwork, lyrics and photos, the album contains 11 killer alternative tracks demonstrating a new found level of passion, polish and originality.  The album was mixed by John Fryer (NINE INCH NAILS, PARADISE LOST, HIM, DEPECHE MODE, FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM, NITZER EBB, DIE KRUPPS) and mastered by John Dent at LOUD Mastering, UK (MOTORHEAD, KASABIAN, PJ HARVEY, GOLDFRAPP, PORTISHEAD, BAUHAUS, GARY NUMAN).

MACH FOX - WASTE THE RIGHT

http://www.machfox.com/

http://www.myspace.com/machfox

Of all the local musicians to emerge since the new millenium, no one has embraced synths, guitars and drum machines as thoroughly as Mach FoX(Mark Howard). With a forceful emphasis on image, his group is one of the finest acts to emerge from the Twin Cities electropunk scene - a cluster of musicians whose on-stage talents are on par with their computer skills.

In the 90's Howard wrote and performed in Manplanet, Grand-80, Puck, Vena cava, Charlie dont surf, Silver FoX, and other bands in his hometown of Minneapolis, while absorbing the influences of electronic artists from all over the world. Though mainly a songwriter, guitarist, and singer, he wished to broaden his sound to include synthesizers, drum machines, and samples. A fan of Prince and Todd Rundgren, and eager to produce his own music, he wrote and recorded hundreds of songs with a 4-Track recorder and later a digital 8-Track, as he programmed and experimented with his newly acquired electronic instruments. Guitars, sequencers, samplers, effects, and the implementation of MIDI all play their part in the recording of a stream of distinct Mach FoX tracks at his home studio -The FoX Den.

He released Mach FoX - "FuturePast" in 2005, a collection of demos from the previous five years, and began performing solo as Mach FoX, before adding Adam01 on guitar and TeA on vocals. Like David Bowie and Marc Bolan, whose glam influences had a direct effect on Mach FoX, Howards' imagery and Live shows became another layer of the music. In early 06' he had a new album, and bassist D-bot joined the line-up. The bands combination of confident image and a music which mixed Howard's goth-tinged vocals, stabbing synths, and churning guitars, with sultry female vocals, funky bass and drum machines, had defined the bands unique style on the 2006 Mach FoX self-titled release. Later that same year Martin Atkins(PiL/Pigface) and Howard discussed the possibility of reworking several tracks for release on one of his labels. No deal was struck and in May 2007 The "AXion/FriXion" E.P. was released on Italian based indie label - The Family Records. Adam01 and TeA had left the band, and it was the addition of MissK's svelte vocals which helped shape the new sound on the songs he had already been recording on and off in 07' and planning to use for the next release.

With the cooperation and inspiration of MissK(Karen Meyer) and D-bot(David Erickson), Howard recorded, edited, and manipulated audio tracks, often applying remix techniques to assemble the songs on "Build it down". He also credits Depeche mode, Matthew Dear, Roxy music, Fad gadget, SchneiderTM, ambient music, and digital recording with inspiring some of the tracks. The experimental yet dancey approach of "The smile that killed", and "Like clover" (both featuring Ericksons Bootsy inspired bass lines) is offset by The almost ballad-like "B4 it's over", which along with opener "The conneXion" and "This city", were written years earlier and awaiting a voice like Meyers'. The last track on the album - "DTMG" was a collaboration between Mach FoX and French producer Francksom, who had done an outstanding remix of "Build it down" after being contacted by The Family Records(label that releases music from both artists). They both expressed interest in doing a song together, so Francksom sent the music track for "DTMG", Mach contributed the lyrics and sang it along with MissK. Francksom then remixed "DTMG" for the 2008 bonus release -"RemiX and Repeat" which has 12 Mach FoX remixes by artists from Poland, Japan, France, USA, Sweden, Canada, and the UK.

Released independently in early 2008, Mach FoX - "Build it down" has 9 tracks Mixed and Produced with French musician/friend Severin24, who helped capture the emotive yet raw feel with an edgey, english style mix on the tracks "Build it down", "Teena tonite" and the Ray Davies/Kinks penned "Allday and all of the nite", which finds Mach twisting the song into a stalkers dark confession. Pushed along by a Technicolor array of sequenced drum and synth tracks "Build it down" still possesses a powerful organic presence with intoxicating sound-scenery.

THE LIGHT DREAMS - CERULEAN SKIES 4
http://www.myspace.com/thelightdreamsmusic
http://www.thelightdream.net

ABOUT - THE LIGHT DREAMS
The Light Dreams is the name of an ongoing musical project, by artist/designer Alex Storer. Inspired by a lifelong fascination with dreams and science-fiction, the music of The Light Dreams is perhaps best described as “instrumental soundscapes”, music that forms shapes and colours, providing a portal for escape. The Light Dreams brings together  a wealth of influence from artists such as Jean Michel Jarre, John Foxx, Gary Numan and Mike Oldfield to name but a few, and combines that influence with a contemporary electronic style.

ABOUT - CERULEAN SKIES
For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with the sky - in fact, I've been told my first word was "clouds"! There's something so inspiring, poetic and artistic about this vast ever-changing blue blanket that surrounds us. The warm colours of a sunset can evoke certain emotions; only the bright haze of a spring dawn makes you feel a certain way, and perhaps most of all, the joy of a bright blue sky on a warm summer's sky and the intake of fresh air and the mixed aromas of freshly cut grass and nature that goes with it.

THE DARK VILLAGER - ROBOTICA

http://www.myspace.com/thedarkvillager1

http://cdbaby.com/cd/darkvillager2

The Dark Villager grew up in the small village of Eastrea, Cambridgeshire, and he regularly returns there to his family home. He has a degree in Music technology and is full time music teacher. After working in England he moved to Greenock, in Scotland, to live with his wife before they moved abroad to work internationally. He plans on returning back home (to stay) soon. His early studio production work was featured on BBC Radio 1 by the late great John Peel. Over the last two years alone, he has produced an eighties style pop album ‘Twisted’ and an indie/ guitar pop EP ‘Wanted’; both released through his own label on ITunes (E.U.).

His latest album ‘Disconnected’ is pure electro synth pop with mostly upbeat and club/dance style tracks. Due to demand the CD has been released internationally through CDBaby and will be available as a download on all major download sites soon. (Including Amazon, ITunes, Napster, Rhapsody etc) The Dark Villager writes, records and produces all of his own work from his home studio (which moves a lot). All work is copyrighted and registered with GS1 and PPL.  He has had radio play through online stations (including Pop a Rock Radio) and also in Germany (DeLuxe-FM on Radio Ems-Vechte-Welle) and has received great reviews and comments online (including BeSonic & Dubai Lime). His music has been compared to the Pet shop Boys, Kraftwerk and Jimi Tenor. It also has similarities to Depeche Mode.

ROBOTICA is from the new album SYSTEM. Available now alongside the DISCONNECTED album from CDBABY.

From Belgrade, Serbia, producer and DJ - M.O.D. aka Master of Disaster aka SHMUKZ used to play drums back in his High school days in the early 90-s for a few bands. Nowadays M.O.D is a freestyle DJ spinning an eclectic mixture of music, but as his roots are in the drums his sets contain a good mix of fresh beats (from dub and hip hop, nu-jazz, electro to break beat and drum & bass).  He is always into experimenting with new sounds and different styles, that's how he started his other project SHMUKZ.

THE MATEYBLOKES - THE SYSTEM EARTH

http://www.myspace.com/themateyblokes

The Mateyblokes consist of 2 brothers Brian & Kerry.I'm the oldest of 5 brothers,Kerry is the youngest. Kerry hasn't contributed anything for a while because he's doing up his house. We grew up in Halesowen.

I left Halesowen in 1993.Kerry still lives there. I started making music when I bought my first synth in the late 1980s.I was inspired by Ultravox & John Foxx's version of Ultravox. I didnt have much money or any way of recording what I was doing. I stopped playing when I moved to Tamworth in 1993. In 2006 Kerry offered to sell me his Korg O1/w.I took him up on his offer. In 2007,inspired by what other members of the Metamatic forum had been doing with their own music I decided to have a go. The first tracks that I posted on our Myspace page were called Dark Water & Summer Rain. These were inspired by the floods of that summer. I continued to post a new track almost every month.

Kerry began making music in the early 90s when he bought a bass guitar. He played bass in a band called Mental Radio & did quite a few gigs in the midlands until he got married & the gigging stopped. He bought his first synth in the mid 90s & continued to create tracks in a spare room. Kerry's first tracks to be posted on Myspace in July 2007 were Lonely Seas & The Truth. We did try to collaborate on a track last year but the distance is the main problem. We tend to use each other as sounding board for each others tracks. The mateyblokes name comes from an old nickname a girlfriend gave me - Mateybloke. I'm currently working on another new song with vocals.

T.RAY AND THE PSYCHOTRONIC FOIL - POSSESSIONS IN MANSIONS

http://www.thepsychotronicfoil.com

http://www.myspace.com/thepsychotronicfoil

Greetings Civilians, This is a message from the original "T.Ray" of the Psychotronic Foil.  The psychotronic shielding (foil, if you will) attendant these songs is continuing to grow, providing fruit among the willing.  This new band of mine stands on the shoulders of certain classics--hoping for a view:  Bowie, Eno, Rundgren, Hendrix, Prince, TDN, Zappa, Sinatra, and more . . . but speaking now to the would-be apocalyptic tenors, supernatural thrills and times of the current day.  Not too old to rock'n'roll, not too young to die--I want to beat "7", tear down the wall, put another log on the fire and dream of the Psychotronic Foil forestalling PX . . . because "the story isn't over".  And remember, "tomorrow belongs to those who hear it coming". Your friend and well-wisher, T.Ray.

DIVISION KENT - IN THE HEADLIGHTS (Melnyk Is Behind The Wheel Remix)

http://www.division-kent.com

http://www.myspace.com/divisionkent

Swiss duo Division Kent are no strangers to Blogville as remixes of their tracks have been all over the place thanks to both a very active promo guy and their obvious quality. Now these remixes – including some unreleased ones – can be found on the special edition of “Gravity”, which is available worldwide this Friday. Even two years after their first release, the originals have not lost any appeal or zest. Songs like “Pat The Pan Am Pilot” with its lyrics about a guy who finds himself in a rapidly changing world are still very up to date. Division Kent play a somewhat sinister type of pop music, which interestingly seems to be very attractive to the goth crowd. It definitely is for everyone else too though and as the bonus CD shows, the songs on Gravity are perfect templates for great remixes by the likes of Keenhouse, Justin Faust, Baxter Beez, After Midnight, and many others.

If you saw Division Kent’s new album, Gravity, walking down the street it would be the most darkly sensual woman with a cigarette hanging out of her parted lips asking you for a light. Somehow this group manages to pull off breathy female vocals and slithering sounds without sounding like a couple of depressed emo kids.

To give some background, Division Kent is based out of Zurich, Switzerland and currently signed to Sony BMG. Made up of Andrea B. and Sky Antinori, this duo is officially seducing the US in October when Gravity is expected to be released. Listening to the tracks takes you on a musical trip, with ethereal music and vocals that could probably bring tears to your eyes and a smile to your face at the same time. I will say that my particular favorites are “L’heure bleue”, “No Kryptonite” and “In the headlights”. So in order to show our love for them and you, we’re posting a few tracks illustrating the style and variations that encompass Division Kent and some of the killer remixes that have come out of this album already. Want a literary preview of our remixers? The Phantom’s Revenge out of Nîmes, France is a disco tap! Listening to their remix makes me wanna boogie nights, sleep never, and bust out the glitter. From the Netherlands, expect to get Shook‘d up with… some Jane Fonda spandex. This remix is a dream complete with 80s fadeouts, leggings, and a Pretty in Pink attitude. The intro on this version by L.A.’s Keenhouse, sounds like something you’d hear as the background music on a Discovery Channel show about spiders, when they show the spiders building a web in like 10X speed. Then it quickly gets into the sexy French lyrics. Not in the US? Well, it’s already been released in Switzerland if you’re over there. In early 2009 it will be released in Germany, Austria, Benelux, and the UK. The Euro edition comes with a bonus CD of nothin’ but remixes. All in all not a bad little package here. Enjoy!! (details from trash menagerie).

Released on May 29 2009 in Germany, Austria, Benelux, UK, Ireland, Greece & Scandinavia. Online available worldwide. We thank our remix artists Joe And Will Ask?, Melnyk, Justin Faust, Dunwich, The Phantom's Revenge, Keenhouse, Love Motel, Shook, Baxter Beez Vs. Ben & Chico, After Midnight, Nite Cells, Shane Fontane, p e a c e FIRE.

ARTHUR OSKAN Vs SPIRAL INTO THE STORM - SUN SQUALL

http://decibelpalace.com/index.html

Arthur Oskan vs. Spiral Into The Storm / New York City People EP / Street date: July 14, 2009

Format: Digital / Cat. no.: dBP007 / File under: Electronic/techno

One of Canada’s finest techno exports, Arthur Oskan, has united with brash funktronica purveyor Spiral Into The Storm. Inspired by the transcendent energy of New York City, their debut EP seamlessly melds a heavy dancefloor bounce and deep atmospheric textures with arrangements that, quite simply explode. The end result? A crucial release, that even the most discerning underground heads won’t want to miss.

Hit play: A Sun Squall emerges, its fragmented vocals ricocheting through a monochromatic urban grid. Overlaying this sonic expanse are languid, jazzy guitar passages, a dub bass undercurrent and an alternately chilled/jacking drumbox arrangement.

Our next stop is the jagged electro-fied bounce of New York City People (Spiral Into The Storm Version). With glitch-ridden loops and vintage 808 smack, a delightful assault of morphing percussion intensifies, until…"N-N-New York City People!" From there on in, it’s everything one would demand after such a definitive soundbite: classic, housey synth stabs, tough disco percussion, and a bass throb supreme. Some say this jam might just have the breakdown of ‘09… but we’ll let the DJs decide!

With A Track This Nice, They Had To Version It Twice

If you could see the EmpireStateBuilding from the top floor of Detroit’s RenaissanceCenter, then Arthur Oskan’s New York City People would have to be your soundtrack to that 600-mile view. This is a towering dancefloor construction, punctuated by insistent, staccato keys that can’t help but erupt into a sublimely disorienting haze. Built upon a Detroit techno foundation, Oskan’s rendering of Big Apple urgency is like no other.

And now, just three sides in, the sweat has already begun to coat the floor. Only one thing to do, then: succumb to the sweetly dark cool-down that isSun Squall (A Spiralling Reprise). You’ve danced. Now it’s time to drone.

Why "New York City People"?

Will Skol of Spiral Into The Storm: "I’ve been lucky enough to have stayed in NYC many times over the years, with each trip being almost entirely different than the one before. There’s just so much to absorb in that town: an immense arts scene, all the great ethnic neighbourhoods, and an absolute, non-stop energy — if you need inspiration, that buzz alone is enough to get you recharged."

"Of course, the root of this vitality is the city’s people, which is what we’ve tried to capture in the title of this release."

HK 119 - WHAT AM I
http://www.myspace.com/hk119
http://www.hk119.co.uk/
HK 119 is the solo project of Heidi Kilpelainen, a Finnish-born multitalented writer-singer-producer and visual arts graduate of London’s St Martin’s College…as Björk once stated in Q Magazine “the perfect blond woman” when selecting HK119 as her favorite artist of the year. Drawing influence from early David Bowie and Kraftwerk among myriad others, ‘Fast Cheap & Out Of Control’ is a tongue-in-cheek warning of sorts, issued in the common language of pop music and featuring the production talents of Dean Honer and Jarrod Gosling of I Monster/ All seeing I (pictured in the slideshow) and Simon Duffy (Leftfield engineer). The Lucas-inspired name HK119 is itself a product code – an attempt to bring awareness to the contradictions of our society and the increasing alienation of modern man. With this, her second album, she touches upon contemporary themes such as space travel, celebrity culture, cloning, surveillance, global warming, mind control, deviant technology, and other such light hearted issues… However, to dwell too much on these is to miss the point; the resultant product is an album of uncompromising, thought-provoking futuro-pop which pleases and disturbs in equal measure, from the dark but joyous swing of ‘Tropikalia’ and the anxious rumble of ‘What Am I’ to the instantly accessible pop of album opener ‘Mind’ and first single ‘C’est La Vie’. The fact that such heady subjects combine in an album that remains cohesive and enjoyable is testament to Kilpelainen’s talent as a true artist. Striking in attire and fascinated by the concepts of modernism and the possibilities of what can be seen as but a merely trashy medium, HK119 is a wilfully unique star for our far-flung times, and one that demands immediate investigation.

NERVEJAM - CITYSCAPE
http://www.myspace.com/nervejam
http://www.nervejam.com
Most of my published music, however, comes from FL Studio, using VST instruments, effects, and rhythm samples. Examples include Cheezemachine, Superwave, Triangle II, Stringer, Synth1. Some of this music was featured on the late, lamented electromancer.com. The three albums featured on the NERVEJAM site are very different in nature. Machinemusic was the first time I had used a computer-based software studio, and was quite a learning curve. Evolution was an attempt to sound like a band, while still pushing the capabilities of FL Studio. Phase 3 takes that further, but is more experimental, and does not attempt to be a band. Musical influences include John Foxx, Gary Numan, Cabaret Voltaire, Karl Bartos, Goldfrapp, Kraftwerk, Ultravox (both incarnations), Fad Gadget, Depeche Mode, New Order, Joy Division and many others.

SUNNYVALE NOISE SUB-ELEMENT - I Love You Every Time You Smile
http://www.myspace.com/sunnyvale

sunnyvale noise sub-element create a place where chicago guitar noise and berlin techno come together, where kraftwerk are remixed by shellac, and where neu! apply their rhythmic aesthetic to autechre’s electronic textures. In the past year, sunnyvale have performed a collaborative set with can legend damo suzuki, been hailed by radio 1’s huw stephens as one of the best new bands around, and have now released their debut album, box three, spool five.

formed in 2000, they were initially conceived as a live sonic experiment. early live shows were entirely improvised slabs of sound using the likes of glue, crisps, clockwork toys and kitchen utensils alongside programmed rhythms, samples, and guitars. these early dissections developed into today’s elaborate weave of sonic textures that can shift from confrontational dissonance to the kind of experimentation that can make you dance, all within the space of a single song.

SUNNYVALE NOISE SUB-ELEMENT - 'I Love You Every Time You Smile' is taken from the new REVOLUTION IN SOUND CD out now on the NORTHERN STAR RECORDS label.
