SYNTHETIC PASTURES - SLEEPING CITIES

http://www.myspace.com/syntheticpastures

Originally a drummer in the early eighties, I gave up music and never really bothered with it until 2006 when I started playing around with computer based music. Not being a real musician other than being able to play the drums, although I haven't touched a real kit for nearly 20 years, at the moment I'm playing around with putting noises together and making one big noise, we'll see what happens in the future. Here are just a few samples of what I've done over the last 2 years, mostly improvised. I had hoped to write and record a new project call Light Fades but due to total lack of interest on my part and no ideas this has been shelved until I can put several ideas together and come up with something interesting. So listen and enjoy or not...All The Best DaveR.

Band members DaveR. microKorg,Roland SH201,Moog Modular V, Jupiter 8V, Pro 53. impOSCar, Korg Legacy, Cell, Monopoly, Polysix, MS20, M1, Wavestation, Yamaha DD55, Electric and Acoustic guitars and general noise making.

ONE MOMENT - BLACK EYES

http://www.myspace.com/onemomentband

One Moment are a 3 piece band that have a sound that can be best described as gritty dark Electro pop. The band originally formed in Grantham during the early 80's when they played on the live circuit mainly around the East Midlands area. Their sound was similiar in style to the electro sounds that were so popular at the time. The band recorded several demos of their songs at local recording studios. However by the summer of 1982 it was all over way too soon as singer John Burgess and Keyboardist Dik Ellis left to form the synth-pop duo The Sleak Pad.
That was it or so it seemed for One Moment until in 2005 and totally out of the blue the band reformed to play a part in The Screaming Egos produced film 'Dead Famous'. Though original vocalist John declined the invitation to reform original keyboardist Richard Shores was back on board with Dik taking over on vocals, completing the trio was Augo on Synth (previously with Dik in The Deep Sect). One Moment were now back on stage for the first time in well over 20 years.
After this the next time One Moment would be heard of was in 2007 when one of there tracks 'Cold Stare' appeared on the Electraparade compilation cd and after a number of favorable reviews the band considered reforming on a more permanant basis.
So in 2008 One Moment are back with a new 3 piece line up, with new member Rice Arnold joining with Dik & Augo to form the latest reincarnation of the band. One Moment also have a new self produced album 'Lowlights' which brings a far more accomplished sound to their brand of Electro Music. The trio will be back out playing live throughout 2008 and will be bringing their music to a whole new audience. Check out the ONE MOMENT Myspace page above for news of the latest live dates and releases.

Reviews

“Dark ambient electronica may have brushed the mainstream thanks to the likes of Maps but this mysterious three piece take it to another dimension. Think Warp era Seefeel and an obvious love of 'Loveless' and you're halfway towards Perfect Blue's alter state realisation. Recent album 'On A Higher Plane' was one of this year's hidden gems.” Drowned In Sound

“A beautifully radiating soft psyche gem comprising 10 star kissed mind erasing orbs traversing through cosmic highways plotting principally similar trajectories to the electronic pioneers of yesteryear - Silver Apples and Kraftwerk.” Losing Today

“Perfect Blue resemble the psychedelic progeny of Boards of Canada and FSOL spin-off Amorphous Androgynous." The Fly

"Worthy of special notice are Perfect Blue for dropping a tab of acid in Kraftwerk's mid-morning mocha." Americana UK

“Krautrock style groove with repeating motifs on organ and various sound fxs to create a hypnotic ambient vibe, that burrow slowly into your consciousness…. cleverly arranged with a sense of minimalism and rhythm. Sohostrut

"An electric wash... daydreams, journeys without motion, atmospheres with rareified or dense details outlined that instant. Sunshine - a rare pearl... its perfect refrain of love and pain." Slurp Magazine

"Music your radio seeks out at 3am." Artrocker

"Perfect Blue are creators of abstract, blissed-out soundscapes… multilayered planes of sound building up a many-frequencied core that's reinforced by occasional, muted beats and vaguely human sounds. At times threatening to go full-blown into 'Loveless'-style lysergic overload, Perfect Blue inject enough darkness into their relatively sedate music to maintain the attention. Like some of the finest music for relaxing to, it relaxes you in a way that's slightly frightening and intimidating." Diskant

"Perfect Blue tread an elegantly drawn line between quivering dreampop and floating-on-the-ceiling ambient, a miasma of sound that stretches and spirals, taking its time, building into total immersion trip music." Kitten Painting

"Perfect Blue's "On A Higher Plane" takes the listener into dubby electronica via minimal drums, analogue synths and freaky textures. The disc simultaneously evokes bad trips and fluffy ambience. The mix and production change the sonic tapestry as the album progresses; it's like a lighter Boards Of Canada evoking nineties Warp Records." Terrascope

"'Sunshine' provides for a nifty slice of sumptuously mind erasing lunatic dub hypnotism - in many ways recalling Sonic Boom's face off with Sun Ray on 'dreamachine' - very ominous and eerie at times… Perfect Blue - psych space cadets, but not as you know it.” Losing Today

COSMIC INTENT - LOVE THE MACHINES

http://www.cosmicintent.ch

http://www.myspace.com/cosmicintent

Founded his first band THE POLYPHONICS in 1984, after five years of piano lessons and first steps with a commodre C64 computer and some synthesizers. He was the songwriter, lead singer and sound-designer of the new wave / synthpop tunes. The band built their own Studio where they recorded, besides many other swiss bands, two own albums: The quadrophonic 'In Memory of Ganymed' was recorded for the National Exhibition "Space Science in Switzerland" in 1986. With their second album 'Undulating Ways', released in 1987, they had about 30 concerts all over Switzerland and became airplay on the swiss radio stations 'DRS 3' and 'Couleur 3'. After finishing teacher's school, he studied theoretical physics and mathematics at the University of Berne. In 1991 he studied sound engineer at the SAE School of Audio Engineering in London. During the same year he produced his first solo album, a rather melancholic collection of new wave / synthpop tunes, called 'Five Years'. Eva learned visual merchandiser and studied at the School of Arts in Berne. Steve and Eva married in 1992. In 1994, Steve opened ANALOG SERVICE, the only swiss company that shipped synthesizers, modular systems as well as other vintage electronic musical instruments to international customers. One year later he founded the TECHNOSAURUS company and began to produce the SELECTOR high-end modular synthesizer, the MICROCON analog synth and the CYCLDON analog sequencer with an electronic developer. In this period, Eva made fantastic surreal paintings and sculptures. 1998 Steve released two albums 'Retrospace' 1986-1994 (electonics / ambient) and 'Different Works' 1987-1991 (electonics / synthpop) 2000 His album 'Organics' (electonics / ambient), released at 'Manikin Records' in Berlin, was mostly produced with the TECHNOSAURUS SELECTOR. 2001-2003 Three Demo CDs 'Seeker', 'Space Crusaders' and 'Humanity' Eva made animated webdesigns and run the 70ies inspired label 'Revival Fashion' with clothes and accessoires. For the last three years, the new band COSMIC INTENT worked on the album 'Collective Illusions'. Steve has written and produced all songs and Eva created videos for the live show that will start in summer 2008. On stage, Steve is lead singer while Eva plays bass guitar and synthesizers, the rest will be performed by compute

REVIEW by Carl Jenkinson (HARD WIRED) - Aww, husband & wife bands, don't ya just love 'em? Following in the footsteps of Inertia, Brainclaw & Santa Hates You, the Swiss couple of Stefan (Steve) & Eva Hug are the latest pair to put the case for musical as well as holy matrimony. Although this is the first Cosmic Intent release Steve is an experienced musician with a discography stretching back some 24 years as well as founding the Technosaurus synth company; in that time, he's worked with a variety of electronic music styles from synthpop to rhythmic instrumental music & this experience shines through on this synthpop album through the use of a wide variety of sounds, thoughtful arrangements & imaginative compositions with Eva's e-bass work providing a tangible human element, enriching the infectious properties of such tracks as 'Love The Machines' which benefits from a nice combination of vocodered & human vocals & 'We Are', which starts off in a cheerful old skool manner before changing tack towards the end & going for a more downbeat feel with some fine piano work setting the mood. All the while Steve's complex melodics add another piece to the duo's musical jigsaw, meaning that the album is not only instantly infectious but rewards deeper listening throughout, a factor that is as much the case on such instrumental tracks as the rhythmic yet spacey 'Bioelectric Fields' (which appeared on the 1999 Organics album but sounds completely at home here) & the appropriately organic-sounding 'Preserve The Rainforest', where Eva's e-bass work really comes into its own, as is is on the vocal tracks such as 'Space Crusaders' & the superb 'Roboter Love' which features an excellent mix of Eva's vocodered voice (she also co-wrote this track) & more superb synth work. This track definately shows the duo at their best &, besides, the story of two robots sharing a tender moment in a scrapyard is surely the kind of offbeat thinking that anyone should respect! As the album progresses, 'Another Tale' & 'Undulating Ways' both provide further listening satisfaction, as does the catchy title track & while the light & bouncey 'There's Enough For All' slightly overdoes the 'niceness' factor a tad the slower 'Right Now' more than compensates for this with its genuinely uplifting chorus. So, by the power invested in me as Hard Wired Reviewer I now declare Mr & Mrs Hug's album to be a triumph that synthpoppers will not want to miss! So, big Hugs (geddit?) due all round, if you ask me!

PAULA  O'BRIEN - FEELING FREE

http://www.myspace.com/paulaobrienuk

Paula O'Brien is a British singer-songwriter / piano/ keyboards. The music is programmed into a sequencer and the vocals are added in studios. Done "by ear"...notation and I never clicked! Tracks written vary from up tempo electro to a more ambient vibe, it depends on my mood. Vocal collaborations: Formative's track "Just a Dance" (Norway), Geigertek's "Ths Visitors" (UK), the new remix of "Sunchase" by Knut Andresen (aka K-Minor of Audiorommet, Norway) and lyric/vox for "Universal Language" (Michael/Sunless Universe/France). Remixes: Ed C Remix "Let Silence Speak".

GARY HUNTER - SECRET ANNEXE

http://garyhuntermusic.co.uk

http://www.myspace.com/garyhuntermusic

Make sure you visit Gary's BRAND NEW website http://garyhuntermusic.co.uk

Work continues on Gary's forthcoming album "The Grey Room" which he hopes to complete some time in June. He has used a blueprint of early Gary Numan (Replicas, Telekon) and predominantly John Foxx (Metamatic) as the basis of his sound on the album, already the Numan inspired and very well received "I Remember You" and "I Once Was A Machine" have appeared on Gary's Myspace site as have a few of the John Foxx inspired tracks off the album, the title track "The Grey Room" which has received glowing praise, "Stranger In A room" (a track that was included on a recent compilation "Here We Go - The Other Side Of Metal Beat"), "A Million Stars" and the latest track to be completed "Secret Annexe".

The other interesting factors about the album are firstly the songs are built mainly around rhythm structures created with the Roland CR78 Drum Machine, heavily used by John Foxx on his "Metamatic" album and Virtual Synths like the Native Instruments Pro 53 used to create the "Numan" pad sounds he has used on the album as well as other analog synths like the Novation Bass Station and the Superwave synth collection which makes use of Roland string & pad sounds of some of the classic Roland Synthesizers.

A VERY VERY promising album is developing judging by the tracks that have been heard thus far.

BONUS FEATURE BELOW - THE VIDEO VERSION OF GARY'S NEW TRACK "THE GREY ROOM".

The Dark Villager grew up in the small village of Eastrea, Cambridgeshire, and he regularly returns there to his family home. He has a degree in Music technology and is full time music teacher. After working in England he moved to Greenock, in Scotland, to live with his wife before they moved abroad to work internationally. He plans on returning back home (to stay) soon. His early studio production work was featured on BBC Radio 1 by the late great John Peel. Over the last two years alone, he has produced an eighties style pop album ‘Twisted’ and an indie/ guitar pop EP ‘Wanted’; both released through his own label on ITunes (E.U.).

His latest album ‘Disconnected’ is pure electro synth pop with mostly upbeat and club/dance style tracks. Due to demand the CD has been released internationally through CDBaby and will be available as a download on all major download sites soon. (Including Amazon, ITunes, Napster, Rhapsody etc) The Dark Villager writes, records and produces all of his own work from his home studio (which moves a lot). All work is copyrighted and registered with GS1 and PPL.  He has had radio play through online stations (including Pop a Rock Radio) and also in Germany (DeLuxe-FM on Radio Ems-Vechte-Welle) and has received great reviews and comments online (including BeSonic & Dubai Lime). His music has been compared to the Pet shop Boys, Kraftwerk and Jimi Tenor. It also has similarities to Depeche Mode.

GLOBAL CITIZEN - MY LOVERS

http://www.myspace.com/globalcitizenuk

Old timers, Global Citizen, have been ruling the electronic block for over a decade now, with their leader, september, still at the top of his game when it comes to fronting the assault on your synthetic senses. their dark, moody, sexy, twisted and some might say, damright perverse music, continues to impress and attract a loyal fanbase. After having self released their own music for several years now, the band were finally snatched up by Rebco records back in september 2007. Their first album on Rebco entitled 'Master Stroke', fusing brand new material with some older tracks with a new twist, is now available.
Global Citizen : Master Stroke - CD  Ref: 18541 Rebco Records snapped them up late last year and this, their debut on Rebco, Global Citizen have been ruling the electronic block for over a decade now with their own releases of dark, moody, twisted and often downright perverse music. 'Master Stroke' fuses brand new material and some previously self released tracks, mostly with a new twist. The cover and booklet are also suitably perverse and beautifully designed and laid out. The album is packed to the brim with a credit crunching fourteen tracks including an alternative version of their popular single 'Tea Time'. These guys really stand out from the rest of the industrial set at the moment by opting for power in mood and atmosphere and proper song writing instead of relying on the boom boom boom …….

Track Listing: 1. Mute Witness 2. Bukkake Smile 3. Something Else 4. Mute Witness 5. Chikages' Happy Hole 6. Eastern Promise 7. Caged 8. Master Stroke 9. Tea Time 10. My Lovers 11. Naughty Naked Nude 12. Lady Killer 13. Wasting Your Time 14. Come And Find Me

LOST CONTROLLERS - ONE TEMPTATION

http://www.myspace.com/lostcontrollers

Once upon a time man built a freeway.

It was a breakthrough of significant proportions, an artery that would eventually link the immense flame-billowing steelworks of Sheffield with the gleaming pavements of London town. Its blinking ambers and flashing blue-and-white 2-dimensional images inspired two wide-eyed boys to depart their homeland, riddled with pharmaceutical slag-heaps and vast chimney stacks spewing chunky nogs of coal into the atmosphere above their heads, and to finally travel: sometimes north, sometimes south, to the two metropoles that, once they touched, gave birth to synthpop. None of the above may turn out to be true, only time will tell. But without a Boss SE50 exchanged for cash across a table inside Sheffield station's ramshackle buffet, and an Akai sampler purchased from a Basildon music shop and driven home (not in a Ford but an Austin Metro), there would almost certainly be no LOST CONTROLLERS.

The Eighties were a time of radical changes in both music and fashion. In the aftermath of the punk revolution, daring New Romantics embraced developing sounds and technologies to transform the music industry forever. Gary Numan, The Human League, Kraftwerk & Depeche Mode all helped to create a totally new genre of music; Electronica or Synth-pop, a futuristic new sound that almost seemed like science fiction at the time.
Electro 80’s pay tribute to this era, and have lovingly recreated songs by the afore mentioned pioneers (and many more), to create a live entertainment show that is sure to transport everyone from this generation, back to the days of underground club scenes and even school discos. Unforgettable classics like “Fade to Grey” and “Just Can’t Get Enough” are performed alongside lesser-known tracks, which will jog your memory in a nostalgic show that is both visually and acoustically stunning.

What is it about Electro 80's that has made them so successful? Apart from their stunning laser light show and dynamic live performances, one of the main reasons has got to be their truly authentic sound. Every tone down to the finest detail is accurate, every nuance is accounted for and realised. Make no mistake, watching an Electro 80's live performance is a nostalgic experience that is second to none. There are other 80's tribute bands out there, that may claim to be the most successful act in the UK. However, the amount of gig dates is testament enough to the accuracy of Electro 80's sound and the vibrance of their live shows.

Blind Before Dawn is primarily a dark electronic act who operate within the boundaries of the gothic and industrial/EBM scene.Though they are not afraid to cross borders into rock music either. Having drawn influences from both the musical likes of Apoptygma Berzerk,Nine Inch Nails,Clan Of Xymox, ( plus the influence of living in the oppressive city of Manchester -taking off from the heyday of Factory Records ). Blind Before Dawn are out to create something new, something refreshing ,to do away with the cliched ubiquitous sounds of the music scene, and be themselves in a sea of copyist acts out to emulate their favourite artist.

In 2006,after several failed incarnations of BBD.Founder member and sole survivor of the original lineup of BBD - Davi Lovatt - was propelled on by a barrage of new darker and heavier material in the wake of the learning curve album "Distance" , BBD recruited a songwriter , singer and guitarist in David Novan. This is generally seen as the "rebirth of BBD" a MK II if you will. As very little of the original elements of BBD remain in this matured ,more inventive lineup. Novan was the lead singer and visionary behind the UK band Narcissus. The pair had always respected each other's bands and even had admitted to being a fan of each other's music, so it was only a matter of time before they paired up and worked together.
Novan has proven to be one of the most longest serving members of the band to accompany Lovatt both live and on CD.

During mid 2007 the band begun recording their follow up single "Breaking The Haloes" featuring the title track, plus a re-vamping of the song "Disintegrity" (originally penned for the Distance album but ultimately was dropped from that release because the band no longer liked the original studio recording).Plus remixes from several established bands. The single received good reviews, but minimal exposure, it was always seen as a pre-cursor teaser for bigger and better things.

Having endured a long and strenuous battle in the face of being overlooked and underrated - the band have worked their way up to a well respected level both in the studio and their growing amount of live acts. often hailed as one of the hardest working underground bands on the goth/EBM scene - they have fought tooth and nail to get where they are, never backed down and never will. They were hailed as being one of the most interesting, hardworking, melodically crafted, underground British playing within the UK gothic scene in 2008.
After completion and release of "Breaking The Haloes" -the band soonafter began talks with Rebco Records on signing the band to a sister label called Mandrax Industries ( as the other side of the coin for Rebco - Mandrax will expand upon the gothic and alternative rock end of the spectrum in the goth scene) ,which had been very hush hush until recently.BBD are the flagship of Mandrax- and will release the forthcoming "Regress / Progress" album with the label. Regress....will chronicle the best 10 years of BBD from outtakes and revamped old songs, carefully selected songs from the now deleted "Distance" album. Plus several remixes and 3 brand new songs showing diversity, and depth shooting straight for the jugular. The band has recently been joined by Machine Wraith's vocalist/programmer Mat Lahan on synths and future production with the next proposed CD.
