Anne Clark - Full Moon

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

ROBO CAST were lucky enough to interview Anne about her time working with John Foxx on her 1985 album PRESSURE POINTS as well as a few questions on Anne's new album - THE SMALLEST ACTS OF KINDNESS.

ROBO CAST interview with ANNE CLARK 20th June 2008

How did the collaboration with John Foxx come about on Pressure Points? I've read it was the record companies' idea?

After the success of my second and third albums I signed a deal with

Virgin Records. Virgin demanded that a producer should be involved with my first album with them. I was reluctant to do this initially as David Harrow and I had between us produced 2 highly successful albums up to that point. However, by this stage David and I were moving in different directions and so after giving the idea some considerable thought I agreed but it would have to be someone whose work I admired and found inspiring. Along with bands such as Magazine and of course all the punk and post-punk, glam and industrial, troubadour songwriters etc, one major influence on my formative years had been John Foxx. As well as the Ultravox material I found his album Metamatic absolutely amazing. Totally unique. And, whilst in the time between I knew his music had evolved in a very different direction too, I thought both our wide-reaching influences and interests could make for an interesting collaboration, along with the material I was writing with musicians I'd met and was working with in London.

Was it always the plan for John to produce the album and co-write some of the tracks?

Yes basically. As I say, I had already begun writing with some musicians in London but was looking for that.....something extra......special....John's ideas were very appropriate!

What working methods did you and John use in creating the album?

Well, I went and met John at his studio (The Garden), I played him some of the demo ideas from the band. He played me some of his ideas. I gave him some texts. It all went very smoothly, flowing together. This was the mid-80s so the whole sampling thing was in full swing. Fairlights, Emulators etc, so it was very interesting creating and working with all the new sounds.

Was John easy to work with?

Absolutely! Very friendly, polite, relaxed and very professional!

I've read the timescale to do the album was just 2 weeks. Is this true?

Yes! No hanging around!!! Punk taught both of us that I think! I'm not such a great fan of the studio anyway. Once the material is written and you begin recording, you have to be so careful not to destroy the energy of things and often the recording studio, especially with the amount of technology increasingly involved, can do that.

Did you have the same regrets as John in not having Patrick Fitzgerald

on the album?

Yes! Patrik was my punk troubador hero. He inspired me so much!!! But......he was off doing other things eh? I think the music industry ate away at him!

Did you get what you wanted out of Pressure Points?

At the time yes, although it was quite a departure from where I was beforehand! Now though I feel it is the most 'caught-in-time' of my albums. But I certainly was very pleased with the results at the time.

How do you feel now about the Pressure Points album?

As I said, I feel some of the sounds are pretty much of the 80s and whilst in one way that can make the album sound pretty dated, in another way I still think there is some very good material on there.

How influential do you feel John Foxx has been on your music and the electronic scene in general?

As I said at the beginning, Ultravox's early material and Metamatic had a huge influence on me and I think on my generation of musicians.

Do you have a message for John?

That it would be great to meet up with him again, for a drink and a chat. Maybe he wants to come to my London show in November!!! I know he's been touring recently. Is he living in the UK? I just send him my best wishes and success!

Can you tell me about your new album and tour?

"The Smallest Acts Of Kindness" is my first original material studio album in years! I've collaborated with my "live" band - Jeff Aug guitars, Murat Parlak piano/keys, Niko Lai drums, Jann Michael Engel cello, Rainer Von Vielen Electronics. I've also collaborated with Leipzig-based electronic noise maker Manuel G. Richter. So, I think the album's a really rich mix of sounds and styles.

Taking a quote from the album press release - "With the world becoming smaller every second, we must grow closer every moment."  This is a very optimistic view. In the "Full Moon" lyrics there is almost an apocalyptic view of the world "Cheap flights, fast food, flash cars, worlds collide, states divide, choose your side, landslides". So, are we on unstoppable rollercoaster of self-destruction or is there a glimmer of light in Anne's world?

There's a glimmer of hope if we stop leaving things to others......politicians, industry, companies that are only self-serving. Newspapers and media that beat us around the head with BAD THINGS and telling us how we aren't beautiful enough or thin enough. We've been so paralysed by political correctness, lack of

responsibility, celebrity culture and consuming! I can't stop what is happening in Iraq, Burma, Zimbabwe, Gaza.....but I CAN control the way I behave to people in and around my environment. We all can. That' where the optimism lies.

A big thank you to Anne for the interview and Jeff Aug for all his help. THE SMALLEST ACTS OF KINDNESS is released on 26th September 2008.

Anne Clark was born in Croydon, South London on May 14th 1960 to an Irish mother and a Scottish father.

Anne was experimenting with music and text and made her own debut performance at Richard Strange's Cabaret Futura in London along with Depeche Mode. Her songwriting experiments came to fruition with the release of her first album The Sitting Room in 1982. During her time at the Warehouse Anne met David Harrow, co-writer on her second album Changing Places in 1983, Joined Up Writing in 1984 and Hopeless Cases in 1987. Anne and David's curiosity with keyboards, synths and samplers led them to create songs and sounds that would provide blueprints for the electronic music of the 80s and 90s - Sleeper In Metropolis........Our Darkness... 1985 saw the release of Pressure Points and a collaboration with John Foxx, the founder of Ultravox. In 1986 she began working and writing with classically trained pianist Charlie Morgan and as well as joining her on her first US tour he also co-wrote material for the Hopeless Cases album (1987). At the end of 1987 Anne moved to Norway which was to be her home for 3 years. The move to Scandinavia opened up further experiments with sound and music and she began working with Norwegian musicians Tov Ramstad and Ida Baalsrud. Along with Charlie Morgan the album Unstill Life was released in 1991. In 1994 Anne decided to take the risk of touring with a purely acoustic band. In 1995 she released To Love And Be Loved, another magical blending of electronics and acoustics featuring collaborations with Martyn Bates, Paul Downing, Andy Bell and Chris Elliot. In 1998 Anne returned once again to the acoustic and folk/classical influences that have become increasingly important to her expression and, much to the disdain of the major record labels, but the acclaim of her audience and critics alike, she released Just After Sunset - a collaboration with Martyn Bates featuring translations of the poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke. Around November 2001 Anne first contacts were made with guitarist Jeff Aug who introduced her to Niko, Murat and Jan-Michael and slowly the pieces were coming together to launch the new acoustic project. Anne and the new band hit the road several times during 2003 and 2004 and ideas for a new CD start to rise and are still in making. Along the way Anne was introduced to Belgian act Implant who remixed Sleeper in Metropolis in 2003. It came to a new collaboration when Anne asked Implant to remix a couple of tracks which were performed during the Bladelse Feesten (NL) in the Summer of 2004. The result were so exciting that Anne was asked to perform two track on Implant?s latest CD Self Inflicted, the tracks are ?Tune up your chips and circuits? and ?Surface Tension?. Around the same time Anne was introduced to Manuel Richter AKA Xabec, both were so excited that Anne asked Xabec to produce the long awaited new album. Throughout 2006 and 2007 Anne continued to perform extensively with both line ups, while preparing the new album. 2006 also saw Rainer Von Vielen joining on stage, completing the full "Electro/Acoustic" line up. End 2007 Anne finally went into the studio to record "The smallest acts of kindness".

In September 2008, Anne Clark will be releasing "THE SMALLEST ACTS OF KINDNESS," which will be her first album of original material in over a decade.  This long awaited album contains the ultimate fusion between acoustic and electronic music and will prove to be the most anticipated album of the year.  Joining forces with her current live band and the electronic noise producer from Leipzig, Germany, Xabec, Anne Clark delivers her most slamming album to date.  Uncompromising in approach yet emotionally vulnerable, the material challenges her audience whilst showing them and herself respect in an age of compromise and conformity.

THE SMALLEST ACTS OF KINDNESS includes songs which Anne has been performing live over the last few years, but that have remained unrecorded until now. The album also contains new material which has never been publicly heard or performed. From the atmospheric "As Soon As I Get Home" to the gut-wrenching tribal electro vibe of "Prayer Before Birth," Anne Clark draws on influences from her entire career whilst constantly searching for new ways to bridge the link between her and her audience.  This is an album that delivers and has been well worth the wait.  The single "Full Moon" is pure electro and sure to be a dance floor burner.

With THE SMALLEST ACTS OF KINDNESS, Anne takes on organised religion - "the politicising of spirituality" -, the escalating crisis around oil and basic foodstuffs, and worldwide abuses of rights and resources; but she never loses sight of the rawest and complex human emotions and the need for hope.

When asked what the ultimate message of THE SMALLEST ACTS OF KINDNESS delivers, Anne simply replied, "With the world becoming smaller every second, we must grow closer every moment."  With THE SMALLEST ACTS OF KINDNESS, Anne Clark is as close to you as the heart that beats within your chest, pumping the rhythms that bring us from the deepest sadness to the most illuminating joys of ecstasy.  Join Anne Clark on her quest to discover, learn, and -- most importantly -- recognize the smallest acts of kindness.  After all, is there anything else worth living for?

THE MATEYBLOKES - Tuesday Blues

This tune is dedicated to all of my colleagues who lost their jobs today at work especially Kathy. The place will never be the same again.

http://www.myspace.com/themateyblokes

The Mateyblokes consist of 2 brothers Brian & Kerry.I'm the oldest of 5 brothers,Kerry is the youngest. Kerry hasn't contributed anything for a while because he's doing up his house. We grew up in Halesowen.

I left Halesowen in 1993.Kerry still lives there. I started making music when I bought my first synth in the late 1980s.I was inspired by Ultravox & John Foxx's version of Ultravox. I didnt have much money or any way of recording what I was doing. I stopped playing when I moved to Tamworth in 1993. In 2006 Kerry offered to sell me his Korg O1/w.I took him up on his offer. In 2007,inspired by what other members of the Metamatic forum had been doing with their own music I decided to have a go. The first tracks that I posted on our Myspace page were called Dark Water & Summer Rain. These were inspired by the floods of that summer. I continued to post a new track almost every month.

Kerry began making music in the early 90s when he bought a bass guitar. He played bass in a band called Mental Radio & did quite a few gigs in the midlands until he got married & the gigging stopped. He bought his first synth in the mid 90s & continued to create tracks in a spare room. Kerry's first tracks to be posted on Myspace in July 2007 were Lonely Seas & The Truth. We did try to collaborate on a track last year but the distance is the main problem. We tend to use each other as sounding board for each others tracks. The mateyblokes name comes from an old nickname a girlfriend gave me - Mateybloke. I'm currently working on another new song with vocals.

GARY HUNTER - A Face I Knew

http://www.myspace.com/garyhuntermusic

I'm 45 and have had a very keen interest in music for many years. Synthesizers have fascinated since I first heard them on records by Gary Numan, Kraftwerk, OMD, Ultravox, The Human League and Depeche Mode. It was in the late 80's when I decided to write my own songs. I formed a studio band with a good friend of mine Ray Naughton and things clicked into place very quickly and we wrote and recorded around 20 songs in a similar style to OMD & Erasure (Vince Clarke has been a big influence with my Synthpop music probably, the biggest influence of all). They were very raw recordings made on a cheap Amstrad 4 track recorder. From there I progressed on to using an Atari computer and sequencer software packages alongside a Drum Machine. I recorded more electronic pop material and also some video soundtrack music.  I wanted to develop my skills in creating music utilising computers and have recorded about 8 or 9 Cds of material using Samples, Drum Loops and Drum Machines. The music in this field covers Dance, Trance, Chill-out & Hip Hop styles. This side of my work has been recorded under the name The Definition Of Sound. It is a collection of material I am very proud of.

I have over the last 2 or 3 years returned to Synthesizers and re-recorded a lot of the material I did with Ray to a much higher standard and in addition I have written numerous new songs and done some cover versions. One cover version I have done is a track of OMD's called "Of All The Things We've Made". This was included on an american release tribute album called "We Love You 2". I am very proud that my version of the song was worthy of inclusion on the CD.

One of my latest project is an interesting one as I have decided to record an album of Ambient/soundtrack music and decided I would only use layered strings, choir sounds and piano. It has resulted in learning Cubase, a programme I have wanted to use for some time. So far 15 songs have been written and I am currently working at mixing those. Moby's ambient music has been the key influence with this material.

The last 12 months have been a very busy and productive period for Gary. He record a full album of Kraftwerk covers including many of Kraftwerk's classic tracks. In addition he also did a remix CD of tracks taken from the album he recorded which was called "Music By Design". Both the main album & remix album have been submitted to Astralwerk records in America who have previously put out Kraftwerk tribute albums.

The Kraftwerk project saw Gary take up the challenge of doing vocals and this has lead to further cover versions being recorded including electronic renditions of 2 Joy Division tracks, "She's Lost Control" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart" both of which have received critical acclaim. He recently recorded 2 Yazoo tracks, "Too Pieces" and "Goodbye 70's" and has covered a few Gary Numan tracks including the classic track "Cars". Again his Numan covers have proved extremely popular.

As well as cover versions Gary has continued to record his own music and is currently working on an album which is heavily influenced by the album "Metamatic" by John Foxx and early Gary Numan material. Currently he has recorded 7 tracks for the CD which he is hoping to make available by the end of year. The album will be the first to feature Gary's own vocals on his own material. One thing Gary does work hard at is learning the mechanics of the various VST instruments he uses and is always willing to try new techniques regards mixing from suggestions from people on the myspace scene. The coming months promise to be a very busy time for Gary so keep an eye out for the new album which has a working title of "Systematic" and also later in the year will see him return to his dance project which will also be something to look forward to.

A big ROBO CAST thank you to Gary for his support and help with the show.

PAUL BERRY - A Stranger In Your House

 http://www.paulberrymusic.co.uk

http://www.myspace.com/paulberryuk

Quote from Paul  –

"I remember having an Island compilation LP (Three into One, I think) which I listened to repeatedly when I was younger. The songs were cold, eerie, strange yet brilliant. They could've been written by no-one else but John Foxx. And that was before Burning Car et al. He's probably not bothered but I hope his contribution to late 20th century music is properly acknowledged one day."

‘Parallel’ is my first album release. The independent release is available via the the major MP3 sites (iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, Tune Tribe etc) as well as on CD (available from this site). The album became available in October 2006. A new album (provisionally titled 'Lost and found') should be available around October/November 2008. 'Kaleidoscope life' from the new album is available to download from my MySpace page.

GEIGERTEK - Picture In Eyes

http://www.geigertek.co.uk

http://www.myspace.com/geigertekmusic

::: ABOUTgeigertek :::

Geigertek is the studio-based project of U.K. electronic music composer and musician, Neil Fellowes. It was created in the late Summer of 2006 and is dedicated to the creation of electronic and computer generated music.

The music of Geigertek is written, recorded and produced using a contemporary computer-based recording facility, located in the East Anglian city of Norwich in the United Kingdom. Details of the studio used by Geigertek can be found HERE

Sound generation is supplied by software synthesizers. The first Geigertek release is a collection of musical pieces, both melodic and ambient, under the title of "The Garden", released through the AD Music label and written, recorded and produced by Geigertek in the Norwich studio (see album details below).

Song creation may be computer based, sounds may be synthetic, but the music comes from the heart and the soul.

The first Geigertek album, "The Garden" was released through AD Music on Monday 4th August 2008, in both digital download and CDr formats. Work done by David Wright on the mastering has really paid off as the album sounds fresher and flows better. An image of the CD cover, which has been beautifully realised by Dave Massey (Code Indigo and Callisto), portraying the underlying themes of the album and the mood of the music perfectly, is below.

In the words of David Wright - "Another new artist to AD Music, Geigertek, is based in Norwich and his debut album "The Garden" is a superb creation released digitally in July 2008 and now available as a CDr release with AD Music's usual high quality artwork and on body print. "The Garden" is an exciting mixture of electronic music sounds and styles that has its roots firmly in the "melodic new age" style of instrumental music, with strong hints of romanticism and no shortage of great tunes. However, where Geigertek really succeeds is in creating his own unique style and sound based on solid musical arrangements that at times verge on the classical, (which is no surprise given Neil's classical training), some great solos, both synth and piano, and some inventive sequencing. There is also an unusually strong variation of moods here that really works well. From the mystical tones of the opening track "The Garden" through various sonic journeys that incorporate both strident and laid back rhythms, through the classical excursion on "The Sculpture and the Wall", the gentle melody of "Songbird Bathing in Blue" to the stunningly atmospheric "View from a White Room", this is a superb album of well crafted, heartfelt instrumental music that although walking the line of melodic new age, never crosses into the sugary sweet. The Garden is sure to find favour with those who like their electronic music varied, emotive and melodic and is a welcome addition the AD Music catalogue."

LETHAL FOAM - Nightmare

 http://www.myspace.com/lethalfoam

Quote from Lethal Foam -

"He (John Foxx) made me realise that music is about feeling, you should just write what

you feel"

About Lethal Foam

Making music for over 20 years accompanied by tea at first, then whisky. When we first started out on our musical journey we worked with the artist now known as Future Daze and a few other folks too. Many of the old Lethal Foam tracks are preserved only on cassette tapes as way back then there were no PCs like we have today. It would be great to get some of these tracks like Dark Green Number Eight or Spy Theme onto myspace, but recreating them could be difficult, but we may give it a go. We have never played live as any of our incarnations, but GKP did once front a punk band called The Runts. Their debut gig was unfortunately cut short when a fight broke out in the pub hosting this momentous occasion, as the locals werent keen on seeing a fake hunchback in white face paint screaming down a microphone. Some woman who objected got the mic right in the face courtesy of the guitarist, Graham. The Runts never played another gig. And they got barred from the pub. In later years however GKP did work with Rock the Dock, a band formed for a small charity concert in Liverpool some years back, playing guitar on a number of cover songs. P has never performed in public and is terrified even at the thought of karaoke unless its in a mates house. The Foamies also write more traditional songs (with tunes and words and everything). These may or may not appear on this page or another page.who knows. This aspect of our music we intended to call The Catherine Wheel, but some other sods also chose this name and then they got a record deal, and so until this day we have remained nameless on this front. From time to time we would also gather with some other music types and call ourselves the Rockin Reverend and his Vicarage Allsorts, a great band fronted by Big Kev who did a great Ian Paisley impression. It was all done for fun, but we turned out some decent tracks. There is also another incarnation of our music under the guise of Balloon Dog. This is mainly guitar based and we may or may not do more Balloon Dogging, but as we wouldnt want to get a reputation for being sexually active in car parks, we need to think that one over.. We try to do what work we can on the music, but with full time jobs, cats that need stroking a lot and a slavish devotion to the football fixture list it is difficult to fit lots in, especially as Sky Sports and the Prem Plus channel seem to have a strange hold over us. However we still harbour a dream of making a living doing music so we dont have to do real work, just us and 50 million others eh?!

FUTURE DAZE - I Am A Stranger

http://www.futuredaze.co.uk

http://www.myspace.com/futuredaze

Quote from Future Daze – “From hearing Systems Of Romance back in 1978 I was hooked. Then along came the stunning Metamatic. This is a hugely influential, landmark album that has remained a firm favourite through to the present day. John does things on his own terms, allowing his creative processes to work without too many outside influences or label infighting. John Foxx a true, modern day visionary. Thanks for the electronic legacy.”

FUTURE DAZE is one of the projects from Ian Price, the man behind the Robo Cast shows. Ian started the shows in July 2007 after various Future Daze and School Of Ambience (another of Ian's projects) tracks were played on various podcast and radio shows. Ian has a huge passion for electronic music and so THE SHOW WAS BORN. In the first Robo Cast year there have been 25 shows, 1 special show for The Family Records label and 2 shows for BBC WM.

Ian is originally from Liverpool, moving to the Midlands (for work!!) in the early 80's. The latest FUTURE DAZE album "Mixed Synthetic Messages" is available now from the Future Daze website and CDBaby plus various digital download sites including iTunes.

Alex from THE LIGHT DREAMS also has his own fantastic JOHN FOXX website QUIET CITY - http://www.quietcity.co.uk

Quote from The Light Dreams –

“I discovered John's music in 2001 - that same year, Foxx released a fantastic album called The Pleasures of Electricity. Something about that album instantly struck a chord with me and it was so incredibly inspiring - I thought to myself "I have to make my own music like this!!" The synths and atmosphere on albums like this one and Metamatic are what really stood out for me - and as a fan of electronic music, I thought I would try my hand at creating my own.

The recurring themes in John's music, such as city life, is something I can relate to - and the same with my own lifelong fascination with old abbeys and ruins, which is part of John's vision in the Cathedral Oceans albums. There is a narrative in many of John's songs that I find similar to that of dreams. My interest in the dreamstate is one of the other main driving forces behind my work.

Foxx's lyrics really have the ability to transport the listener straight into the scenario. Although my music is instrumental, but you don't always need lyrics to project the listener into another world. Like Foxx's Cathedral Oceans albums, the song titles of my work suggest a concept, although the music is really up to the listener's imagination as to how they interpret it. The titles can just be a starting point."

ABOUT - THE LIGHT DREAMS

The Light Dreams is the name of an ongoing musical project, by artist/designer Alex Storer. Inspired by a lifelong fascination with dreams and science-fiction, the music of The Light Dreams is perhaps best described as “instrumental soundscapes”, music that forms shapes and colours, providing a portal for escape. The Light Dreams brings together  a wealth of influence from artists such as Jean Michel Jarre, John Foxx, Gary Numan and Mike Oldfield to name but a few, and combines that influence with a contemporary electronic style.

Alex is also the creator of the fantastic artwork for the CD and also the image used for this show. Many thanks for your contribution.

Alex also appears on the fab RECLINER VOL1 CD on the Toffeetones label with his track Escape-

AjantaMusic - As We Revolve (Live From London) EXCLUSIVE TRACK!!

Recorded at the Inn On The Green, London on the 23rd April 2008 featuring vocalist Gina Watson.

http://www.myspace.com/ajantamusic

http://www.ajantamusic.com

Due for release in September 2008, the eagerly anticipated second AjantaMusic album, "Above The Cloudline".

AjantaMusic comprises brothers Paul and Robin Simon with guest vocalist Gina Watson.  Robin is a former member of Ultravox (Systems of Romance) and Magazine, and worked extensively with John Foxx on his albums The Garden, The Golden Section, and In Mysterious Ways.  Paul formerly worked with Thomas Dolby (The Fallout Club), Cowboys International (with Pete Jones and Stevie Shears), Hans Zimmer and Glen Matlock (as a member of The Philistines).  The brothers worked jointly with John Foxx on sessions at the time of In Mysterious Ways and in Blitz with John Foxx and Sue Rachel in the early 90s.  Paul and Robin began AjantaMusic whilst living on Ibiza at the turn of the Millennium, releasing their first album, And Now We Dream, in 2005.  They recruited classically trained guest vocalist Gina Watson early in 2007 and have played live with Gina in Ibiza and London.

Their second album, "Above the Cloudline", is due for release in September 2008.  This album sees the brothers evolving from the instrumental style of "And Now We Dream".  Here they take a song-based direction, encompassing new styles of electronica, electro-ethnic fusion and mutant new wave.  "Above The Cloudline" also retains a certain pop sensibility throughout.  The album features guest appearances from former colleagues Dave Formula (Magazine, Visage), Pete Jones (Cowboys International, Public Image Limited) and, from The Radio Science Orchestra, Matthew Seligman, Joy Smith and Bruce Woolley.

Early mix versions of two of the tracks from the forthcoming album are available on Myspace.  "As We Revolve" (Live) is an exclusive version of a third track.

AjantaMusic’s next gig is on Thursday 2nd October 2008, 19.30-23.30, at the Inn on the Green, 3 Thorpe Close, London W10 5XL (under The Westway, between Portobello Rd and Ladbroke Grove).  Paul and Robin will be joined by vocalist Gina Watson plus Montana Verde VJ Visuals and AjantaMusic DJs.

THE GLIMMER ROOM - Lake Song

 http://www.theglimmerroom.co.uk

http://www.myspace.com/theglimmerroom

LAKE SONG is taken from the 2002 album Tomorrows Tuesday.

Various releases are available at http://a-framemedia.co.uk/catalogue.htm

Quote from The Glimmer Room –

"I don't know if I am one my own with this but the biggest influence for me is the atmosphere of the music, this is over the actual music itself. The slower tracks off of The Garden, The Golden Section and of course the Cathedral Oceans albums have a fantastic warm feeling about them. The exact feeling I get when I walk in a sunset by myself, it is a kind of contentment I think never really worked it out but it is great feeling all the same. This is what I try to communicate more than anything else with my music".

The Glimmer Room's second album release ‘Grey Mirrors’ is available now from all good vendors via A-Frame Media. A laid back affair, drawing influences from ambient works such as The KLF’s Chill Out and John Foxx’s Cathedral Oceans, the album is based around a single piece of music. It was conceived and recorded by Andy Condon in 42 hours, and comes in at 42:24. File under "Longform Electronica". The Glimmer Room's debut long player is a slightly more conventional affair, The thirteen tracks that make up 'Tomorrow's Tuesday' evolved from chopped up breaks and beats via lush synthesiser melodies to form The Glimmer Room's trademark atmospheric, layered soundscapes. 'Tomorrow's Tuesday' was released in 2002 on seminal Sheffield electronica label Neu Harmony. The album was shaped by the soundtrack of Andy's formative years spent listening to the early pioneers of electronic music, as well as more recent influences like Underworld, Archive and Air. 'Tomorrow's Tuesday' was described by some reviewers as 'chill-out' but The Glimmer Room's music transcends the genre, drawing comparisons as diverse as Moby, Enigma and Mike Oldfield's 'Songs of Distant Earth'. 2007 will see a compilation of rare and unreleased material, available as a limited edition cd release and download, as well as completion of The Glimmer Room's as yet untitled third studio album and live performances to be announced.

NEUVOUGE - Synth City

http://www.neuvogue.co.uk

http://www.myspace.com/neuvogue

Quote from Christian V, (Neuvogue Synth Operator): John Foxx's music runs through the Neuvogue sound - the cutting edge synth noises in early tracks like 'Underpass' now influence the retro elements in songs of ours like 'Synth City'. Equally important is Foxx's newer 'Crash and Burn' style - those harsh electronics and pounding drum machine beats feed into the more modern aspects of our sound, such as in the new single, 'Skinned Alive'.

Biography

In the year 2002, Synth Operator Christian V encounters PX-200, Synth Operator and 303 Programmer. Both are regular visitors to Synthetic, in cyberspace and in real life. A search through their musical archives shows them to be on a parallel wavelength, and construction soon begins on the first Neuvogue output, Synchronised Emotion. Creation progresses with Birth Machine, Gilt Complex and Futurist Manifesto, until Neuvogue is three, with Oliver Prime as first Vocaliser. Random Number Generator, Robot Building and Androgynetic are processed and the first sightings of Neuvogue ensue, reaching an apex when a sighting is televised in 2003. Prime malfunctions, but is soon replaced.

Neon Strobelight [an improved model of Vocaliser] is assimilated in 2004, providing the final elements and Neuvogue enters a new phase, a unification of synthetic waves and dramatic vocals. Remodelling of the output begins and construction intensifies on the first totally new output, Film. The Manifesto is finally recorded and new sightings are foreseen...

SUNSET PEOPLE - The ShortWave Set

http://www.myspace.com/sunsetpeople

http://www.whitelabel-music.co.uk

Quote from Garry (Sunset People) - "The first time I heard him was when the cooler (and much older) kids who lived next door, were blasting him out of a stereo onto the street whilst we sat and listened in the summer.  Even among all the classic tracks being blasted out by the likes of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Heaven 17, The Human League and Gary Numan, "Europe after the Rain" just stood out and shone.  That beautiful, haunting piano, the prowling lynx bassline (ask the KLF about prowling lynx basslines), incessant drumming and the sweeps of acoustic guitar…and then there were the words. The lyrics just took me somewhere else, somewhere I’d never been – a different place that I could only imagine on the strength of his song.  After much insistence and cajoling, a battered and much used blank cassette copy of ‘The Garden’ was given to me, with ‘Metamatic’ on the other side – at first, I wondered who that album was by – it couldn’t be the same man, could it. His music(s) (and I say ‘(s)’ because he has one of the most schizophrenic catalogues I know) is always different and always the same – like a city where the skyline seems to remain constant it’s only when you see a photograph from years before that you realise it’s so very, very different.  And like a city, his music has its streets, avenues, plazas, parks and gardens – there’s always something new around the corner. I know, because I’m living there now.  I’ve been here for a while now, I’d leave but…there’s no where else I want to go".

Formed in a dimly lit bed-sit off the Holloway Road , Sunset People was nothing more than ideas scribbled on paper, sound collages made from field recordings, found sounds, tape recorders from charity shops, borrowed effects units and a cheap Yamaha keyboard. A couple of brief (for 'brief' read 'confusing') gigs were performed in and around London and Sunset People have been performing with moderate success in the capital ever since. After temporarily relocating to Eastern Europe, performing to small audiences in Krakow, Warsaw, Prague and Budapest, Sunset People are now back in the UK, and working on new material.

The Sunset People debut album Haiku Disko is also available to download from iTunes. The album is a mixture of vocal and instrumental work. The tracklist is as follows; > morninglight (dans le parc), Navigation, Silver Surfer, Swimming,> other houses, other voices, Beta Tracts, Hoodlum Scientist, QuietCity. The album is being brought to the super-information highway courtesy of WLM (whitelabel-music.co.uk) and Id like to thank Ann and Marc for all their help. Id also like to thank Sean who digitally transferred and re-mastered the tracks, and Mark for designing the website (www.sunsetpeople.com). Garry+++ Thanks for listening+++ Sunset People have performed with JOHN FOXX, LARGE NUMBER, SCANNER, FOUR-TET, CAMPACTOR, SIMIAN AND RICHARD H KIRK (CABARET VOLTAIRE).

Thanks also to Garry for supplying images for the CD artwork.

MARK LANE - 3rd Party

http://www.editionsmarklane.com

http://myspace.com/theantitech

Going back to the early dawn of the new wave and punk movements, Mark Lane began his electronic music and tape splicing experiments in 1980. His first release in 1981 was a vinyl 7” entitled “Love is So Aggravating.” Although it was well received, it was the release of his 1984 mini-LP entitled “Who’s Really Listening?” that garnered him critical acclaim and cemented his place historically as one of the early pioneers of minimal electronic synthpop. Tracks like “Sojourn” and “White Glove” still rank very high among djs and aficionados of this era and have become standards of the genre. During 1985 Mr. Lane made a short tour of the Netherlands with the founding members of the Klinik who were then touring their first record. Those shows and their recordings are still remembered as an innovative and important chapter in the history of the Belgian electronic music scene.

Additionally Lane collaborated with a large number of European musicians of the era including members of Attrition, Data-Bank-A, Vomito Negro, De Fabriek, Mechanic Kommando, Afterimage, and Conrad Schnitzler of Tangerine Dream and Kluster.

In the mid 90’s Mark Lane released two CD-EPs “Black Lipstick” and “Shadow Merger” which in essence are sister recordings that link his past work to the present. Now at the height of his ardent analogue minimal style he celebrates his 25th music anniversary with three new releases, and continues to produce electronic music through a third decade.

The track "3rd Party" is on the released,  "The Anti-Tech Testament 1981-1985" (2xCD) digipak. "3rd Party" was originally released on the "On-Slaught Magazine No.1" various artists flexi-disc 1982.
